Darren Andrews is a founding director of Cobalt and developed the company from its early stages of technology research to funding and beyond. He began his career as a physical chemist, gaining a degree in chemistry and a PhD in short-pulse laser spectroscopy from Manchester University. Darren move to industry with Unilever Research, where he developed products based on novel polymer technology in collaboration with several multinational companies. From there he moved to Nippon Lever in Japan, working in the development and marketing division making products tailored to the Japanese market. Darren moved to the UK's Science and Technology Facilities Council to develop IP and business opportunities for early-stage technology before spinning out Cobalt in 2008.
