Cobalt Delivers Analysis Instrument for Bone Disease Research

Cobalt has delivered a bespoke instrument to University College London as part of a four year research programme into bone disease diagnosis that runs from March 2010

. The instrument, which uses Cobalt’s SORS technology, will be used for research into bone anal ysis on patients that could become a new diagnostic method. SORS can produce a reading from bone beneath several millimetres of skin using only a low-intensity light source – standard techniques use x-rays for analysis.  The testing will involve studies on groups of 20-30 hospital patients with known skeletal conditions and provide an evaluation of the in vivo uses of SORS and its opportunities for commercialisation.

The picture shows how the system will be used in UCL’s research. The full press release is available here.
