Cobalt to present at the SPIE Security and Defence Conference

Cobalt Light Systems will give an oral presentation at the SPIE Security and Defence Conference on Monday 20 September 2010.

The company’s CEO, Dr. Paul Loeffen, will speak in the afternoon in session 2: Local Sensing: Nuclear, Crime Scenes, Narcotics, Explosives, and Chemical and Biological Agents II, which starts at 13:20. The talk is entitled “Detection of concealed substances in sealed opaque plastic and coloured glass containers using SORS” in which Paul will explain Cobalt’s proprietary technology of Spatially Offset Raman Spectroscopy (SORS) and how it can be used to significantly decrease the false-alarm rate in the detection of concealed threat substances in containers which do not typically yield well to conventional backscatter Raman. The presentation will set out the huge potential of SORS as a security screening technology with some recent examples and investigations.
